Clients

Below are some example clients we have/are working with illustrating the service and scope of projects Goose Marketing undertakes. Although we are primarily working with clients focused on the life science and healthcare markets this is not exclusively the case. BusinessWare, for example, addresses a wide range of organisations operating across various markets including the life science and healthcare sectors.

VGlogo1

Virtual Genetics is a small early stage Swedish company located within the world-renowned Karolinska Institute. The collaborartion of a talented multi- disciplinary management team including expertise in life science, statistical mathematics and information technology has resulted in the development of some exciting technologies for use within the life science and healthcare sectors.

  1. Knowledge Miner, information contents retrieval and extraction system.
  2. Virtual Predict, using Inductive Logic Programming techniques, defines rules describing patterns within complex data.

Service:
Consultancy & Outsourced Sales and Marketing

Scope:
Help define the market and develop the value proposition, at the same time identify potential partners, customers and routes to deliver sales revenue.

Knowledge Miner

Knowledge Miner is a hybrid technology information retrieval system, comprising an information theoretic high dimensional indexing engine and a fully functional bibliographic search engine. The system can be used for text and data mining, both in structured and unstructured formats. It’s design supports parallel processing on distributed, multi-threaded servers and is able to handle query searching on large multiple databases simultaneously with many concurrent users.

A customer specific web-enabled user interface supports the following querying strategies:

  • Boolean expressions on multiple databases
  • Word truncation and wildcards
  • Numerical searching within ranges
  • Proximity and Synonym searching (thesaurus)
  • Similarity searching based on keywords or text
  • Relevance feedback
  • Index browsing and query creation
  • Nesting and refinement of queries
  • Query history and Saved queries across sessions
  • Strong Terms searching

The results can be viewed by:

  • Ranking based on occurrence, frequency, date of publication etc
  • Exporting documents in XML format
  • Viewing summaries, abstracts or full text
  • Extraction of keyword and key phrases

Today’s organisations pursuing drug discovery or health science demand access to multiple data sources both internally and externally. Knowledge Miner, the indexing and search engine, can dramatically improve the productivity of the information retrieval process, maximise its effectiveness and reduce the risks of missing vital information; the consequences for cost and time can greatly enhance competitive advantage.

Virtual Predict

Virtual Predict is a system for induction of rules from pre-classified examples. It is based upon recent developments within the field of machine learning, in particular inductive logic programming (ILP). The rules that are discovered can be used for predictive modelling, decision support and automatic classification of new data. The system handles numerical and categorical data, giving the user the choice of a wide range of discovery methods targeting both classification and regression problems.

This product has the potential to be of huge value to the drug discovery industry through its ability to develop models for:

  1. Predicting the aqueous solubility of a molecule from a number of numeric input features describing the properties of the molecule.
  2. Predicting the toxicity of a drug candidate from a number of input features describing the properties of the candidate.

BusinessWare logo

BUSINESSWARE is a Danish company focused on the classical management disciplines of strategy development, implementation and embedding. In 1996, the desire to advise customers at board level on how to achieve strategic profitability during turbulent market conditions, led the company to develop a strategic planning process known as BusinessMap. This process, when implemented, has the potential to do for strategic planning what six sigma has achieved in the field of quality improvements, radically transforming strategy creation, implementation and embedding. It enables the whole organisation to be involved and ensures those responsible for steering the direction of the company remain connected to the driving wheels of the business.

With its focus on the future direction of the company, BusinessMap is the missing piece that firms require to complete the quartet of systems building the datawarehouse where vital knowledge is kept, the others being Business Intelligence, CRM and ERP.

Blue chip organisations using the BusinessMap process include:

  • Boehriger Ingelheim
  • Computer Science Corporation (CSC)
  • Group 4 Falck
  • Scandinavian Air Service (SAS)
Service:
Consultancy & Outsourced Sales and Marketing

Scope:
Help define the market and develop BusinessMap's value proposition, at the same time identify potential partners, customers and routes to deliver sales revenue.
BusinessMap

BusinessMap, the product of 18 years worth of board level consultancy, frames a planning process linking strategy formulation to the action plan and the bottom line.

Through team workshops individual segment market dynamics can be mapped with respect to the organisation, customers and the competition. This leads to a clear understanding of the company’s position within that segment, at the same time identifying the unique business or market share drivers.

The ability to increase segment market share over a defined period, using BusinessMap, is anchored in and achieved through focusing resource on these unique, quantifiable drivers. These feed through to impact customer portfolio management to increase customer spend, and predict competitor response

With finite resources, however, not all the market share drivers can be targeted simultaneously for improvement, so those critical to achieving the defined increase are selected; these become the critical success factors (CSF), and their incremental improvement and monitoring the basis for the action plan.

The same process can be repeated for all the organisation’s business segments, and then consolidated into one document. Since each market is viewed the same way, senior management can view across their business on a real time basis, and know all their business drivers, CSF and action plans including underlying assumptions. This strategic transparency will significantly enhance their ability to make the right choices and navigate the firm toward those twin goals of a sustainable profitable growth and a sustainable competitive advantage.

sense

Sense Proteomics Ltd, Cambridge UK

Sense Proteomic is a functional proteomics company and a world leader in the development and use of protein-related molecular technologies to enhance capabilities within the drug discovery process and the efficacy of the therapies developed from it. Through collaboration with pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, Sense Proteomic has developed, produced and is marketing functional protein arrays for the use in developing lead compounds and novel targets.

Service:
Consultancy

Scope:
To distill from technical information commercial arguments around the value proposition and shape into sales tools.

The estimated cost today to bring a drug to market stands at around £800m, 43% of this cost is incurred reaching clinical trials phase 1 and 73% by the end of phase 3. To produce more viable drug candidates and reduce the risk of candidate failure during these clinical trial phases, big pharma needs more efficient and effective drug screening technologies. One such technology is that of functional protein arrays developed by Sense Proteomics; these arrays are set to dramatically impact the entire drug discovery process, significantly reducing the risks of late failure, associated costs and time wasted.

Example: Sense's CYP450 Protein Array

As part of preclinical toxicological screening the industry utilises the human CYP450 protein. However CYP450 in the human population is polymorphic and the effects of target compounds on these polymorphisms encountered only during clinical trials. Sense's CYP450 functional protein arrays enables drug candidates to be tested well before the clinical trials phase against all the polymorphic forms of the CYP450 protein.
